Create an Item

An item can contain text, audio, movies, files, images, and mashups. Using the Content Editor, any text written is editable within Blackboard. 

Creating an Item from the Build Content menu:

To create an Item:

  1. With Edit Mode ON, click on the Build Content button.

  2. A contextual menu will appear.
  3. Click the Item link.

  4. On the Create Item page, type a Name a name for the file into the name textbox.

  5. Optionally, type instructions or a description in the Content Editor

  6. If you have an attachment to add to the Item, click Browse My Computer to upload a file from your computer.

    1. The attachment will be linked to this Item and saved in Course Files under Course Management.


  7. Select the Options for the Item:

    1. Click Yes to  to 'Permit Users to View this Content' if the content is ready to viewed by students. Select NO No, if not.
      1. Selecting 'No' will keep the Item hidden from students regardless of any Date and Time Restrictions settings.
    2. Click Yes or No to track number of views.Select dates and times to to 'Track Number of Views.'
    3. Select Display After and Display Until and set the dates and times, if you desire to add date restrictions to this Item.
      1. Display restrictions do not affect item availability, only when it appears.You may use the 'Display After' setting with or without using 'Display Until.'

  8. Click Submit.
