Student Account & Support Information

This page provides information about your Net ID, university email and how to access technical support.

NET ID

  • Your NetID (IT account user name) is your primary username for IT academic computing services, including SPIRE, UMail, Google Mail & Apps, UDrive, and the campus network Go.Umass.  

  • Your NetID and associated password are also used to log into Canvas, Blackboard Learn and Moodle*.  

  • Account information and activation directions are sent to you separately by email to your non-UMass email address. If you do not receive this information, visit the IT Support Center webpage to contact the IT Help Center directly using the contact information listed on that page.

*You must activate and log into your SPIRE account in order to successfully log into Blackboard Learn or Moodle.

About Student Email

This section refers your campus account. For information about the mail tools in Blackboard Learn, visit the IT Email Support page and the Google Mail FAQ.

  • Incoming students will receive Google Mail accounts through the university.  
  • Some graduate students will use Exchange mail. If you are a graduate student and your department uses Exchange you will be notified.
  • You can access all IT email accounts at their Email Webpage. Both university email accounts are accessed using your NetID and password.
For Students using Google Mail

Students can access Google Mail at apps.umass.edu using their NetID and password.  For information for how to configure Google Mail for email software and mobile devices, as well as university policy and forwarding options, please see the IT Apps at UMass Amherst webpage.
