The following images and instructions will guide you through the process of joining a Collaborate meeting.

Blackboard Collaborate is a video conferencing tool used by students and instructors. Depending on your Collaborate session's settings, you may be able to participate with your instructor and other students using chat, video, and/or audio tools. Click on the arrows below to learn more about Collaborate's various tools and settings. 
 

  1. To join a Blackboard Collaborate session, click the teal Join Room or click the title of the room located to the right of the purple circle icon.*
     or  

    *In some cases, your instructor may add a Blackboard Collaborate link to your course menu. Click the Blackboard Collaborate link to be directed to the Blackboard Collaborate page.

  2. Blackboard suggests that students use the Google Chrome browser in order to have the best experience in Collaborate Ultra. If users attempt to enter the room using a different browser (Safari, Firefox, etc.), the following message will appear. Users can choose to continue using a non-Chrome browser by simply clicking the "x" in the upper right area of the message or attempt to enter the room using Google Chrome.

  3. Non-Chrome users will be prompted to test their microphone and camera. Click Yes to start testing.

  4. Click the radio button next to Allow to give Collaborate permission to access your microphone and camera.

  5. Click Close after you have selected the allow option.

  6. On the Audio Test page, select a particular microphone by clicking on the drop-down menu.

  7. Select the appropriate microphone option.

  8. Begin speaking into the microphone. Note if the audio bar moves when you speak.

  9. Click Yes-It's working if the audio bar moves.

    *Please note: If the audio bar does not move, click No-I need help to be directed to a Blackboard support page or adjust your computer's microphone in your system sound preference settings.
  10. Click on the camera option bar to select the appropriate camera.

  11. After selecting the appropriate camera, click Yes-It's working if your image appears.

*Please note: If you cannot get your camera to work properly, click No-I need help to be directed to a Blackboard support page.
