Create a Graded VoiceThread Assignment Link

VoiceThread allows instructors to create graded assignments which will automatically feed grades into their Blackboard or Moodle gradebook. There are three types of Graded Assignment:

  • Create assignments require students to create and upload their own VoiceThreads. These can be shared with the class using the Student Gallery for the assignment.
  • Comment assignments require students to add comments to a VoiceThread that the instructor uploads.
  • View assignments require students to fully view all slides and comments on a VoiceThread that the instructor uploads.

  1. If you haven’t done so, build your VoiceThread in VoiceThread Home. This allows the VoiceThread to be used in future semesters. If you are using a Create Assignment where students upload VoiceThreads that they have created, you do not need to do anything for this step.

  2. Log into your Blackboard course and enter the content area where you would like to add the link to the VoiceThread Assignment.

  3. Hover your cursor over the Build Content button, and select VoiceThread 1.3 on the drop-down menu.

  4. Select the Assignment Builder button.

  5. This will open a new VoiceThread page where you can choose what kind of assignment you would like to create and select settings. See the instructions for setting up the assignment's options here. The name, description, and due date options that are entered during the VoiceThread setup will automatically be copied and used for the link to the assignment that is displayed in Blackboard.

  1. If you haven’t done so, build your VoiceThread in VoiceThread Home. This allows the VoiceThread to be used in future semesters. If you are using a Create Assignment where students upload VoiceThreads that they have created, you do not need to do anything for this step.

  2. Enter your Moodle Course and click on the green "Turn editing on" button at the top of the page to enter Edit Mode.

  3. Click the +Add an activity or resource link in the section where you would like to add the Assignment link.

  4. Select External tool on the Activities list, then click on the Add button.

  5. Give the link a Name in the Activity name textbox, and select VoiceThread on the Preconfigured tool drop-down menu.

  6. Click the Save and display button to create the link.

  7. Click the Open in new window link.

  8. Select the Assignment Builder button.

  9. Now that you have created the link, you can choose what kind of assignment you would like to create and select specific options. See the instructions for setting up the assignment's options here.
